Acne: What Is It?

Acne is one of the most common skin disorders. The most common form of acne is called acne vulgaris. On this website, whenever we refer to acne, we are referring to acne vulgaris, unless we specify.
Acne is a disease of hair follicles and develops in stages. Beginning with blackheads and whiteheads acne may develop into large nodules and cysts. The second stage of acne is pimples or zits. They are also known as papules and pustules. Pimples form when the plugged pores get inflamed. When pimples get further infected and inflamed, the third stage of acne develops. These are called as nodules and cysts.
Acne will not always develop into the more severe stages. It may stop growing after the first stage.

Where can acne develop?
Acne can develop on all the places of the body where hair follicles are located. The density of follicles is greater on the face, neck, chest, back, shoulders, neck and upper arms. Acne is therefore most common on face, arms and trunk.

Who gets acne?
Mostly teenagers suffer from acne, but people of any age can get it. Acne can affect people in their thirties, forties or above.

Acne: Common Causes

If you have a family history of acne, you are at a greater risk of getting acne. Acne is not strictly hereditary, but the probability is higher if your family has a history of acne.

Androgen group hormones activate the sebaceous glands and also help block pore openings. Hormonal changes during puberty therefore trigger acne. This is the main cause of acne in teenagers. Women may get acne at later ages because of changes in hormones.

Oily skin
Those with oily skin have a greater probability of getting acne. The excess sebum gives much needed food to bacteria P.acnes and may also block pore openings.

Though no food is directly linked with acne, experience suggests that some people get acne from eating certain foods. If you find any association between a food and your acne, stop eating that food.

Pressure and sweating
Pressure, rubbing of the skin and sweating can cause an acne known as acne mechanica. Tight clothes made of synthetics, backpacks, tight helmets and similar items may cause acne.

Menstrual cycle
Women may get acne some days before the beginning of their menstrual cycle because of changes in their hormones.

Some medicines can cause acne break-out.

Cosmetics and skin care products
Acne cosmetica can be caused by the use of cosmetics.
There are lots of acne treatments that works. It is just a matter of choosing which one to use. You can get medication from your dermatologist because for sure they know exactly what to do; the advantage of doing so is that is their field and that is what they do to cure skin problems. The disadvantage of it is it cost money. You can get some products that work from aestheticians who works with different professional lines.   • H2O: it is always present inside the house. Drink lots of water, 8-10 glasses a day is good for your skin. Drinking water keeps your skin hydrated preventing you from having dry skin and skin rash which will lead to acne problems. Wash your face every morning and at night before going to bed. Do not over wash your face it will remove the natural oil that is needed for your skin.
    Avoid eating chocolates, sweet foods, and fatty foods. It will make you fat and sweaty. If you are sweating too much, your pores will be clogged by it and will lead to acne problems.
  • If you are tired of drinking water and you wanted beverage, drink green tea which is good for preventing acne and also good for the skin. It has antioxidant that is good for curing acne and other skin diseases that include skin cancer.

You must use less makeup first. What you do not know is the more makeup you put on your face, the worse acne might actually be. If you wear lots of heavy foundation or use thick face creams, it may be the cause of your skin problems, especially when you choose the wrong makeup. So, the less makeup you put on your face, the better. And in order to avoid the wrong choice, you could get advices from skin experts.
